In my previous role, I started by reviewing calibration certificate, MSA result, and master sample. I then worked with the responsible team to verify calibration status, resolution, method, operator technique, and GR&R. I documented the result, tracked any remaining risk, and followed up until the measurement system met the agreed requirement.
